Duru was born from a personal desire to create a typeface which performs particularly well in setting continuous Turkish texts. After the typeface was introduced at TypeCon and AtypI in 2011, it was acquired by Google Fonts for use on its webfont platform. Duru consists of nine weights with accompanying italics.
