ISType is an international typography platform rooted in Istanbul. Since its founding in 2011, it has brought together designers, researchers, and educators through conferences, seminars, lectures, and research-driven projects exploring typography across cultures, scripts, and technologies. ISType is pleased to co-organize Istanbul’s Armenian Printers, a two-day international workshop and study day taking place on 7–8 August 2026 at the Matenadaran Museum in Yerevan.
Bringing together international scholars and researchers, the event explores the remarkable contributions of Armenian printers, type-makers, and craftspeople to Ottoman print culture and the broader history of typography. Through a series of talks and discussions, the workshop will examine the circulation of printing technologies, multilingual typographic practices, and the lasting influence of Istanbul’s Armenian printing tradition across the Ottoman Empire and beyond.
The event is hosted by the Mesrop Mashtots Institute of Ancient Manuscripts (Matenadaran) and generously funded by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. For more information visit the event site.
